Media Training

Media training is a crucial tool for any company spokesperson.

That’s because it’s not what a great job you're doing 90% of the time or behind the scenes that counts – it’s how well you deal with facing the media in both the good and bad times that shapes your public profile.

McClusky & Co offers specialist media training that takes participants through the nuances of print, radio and television with real and practical exposure to exactly what they can expect.

We examine how the media works by explaining:

  • What stories the media think are worth pursuing
  • How your company is likely to be approached in a crisis situation
  • How to prepare for an interview
  • How to control the interview process
  • What to say, what not to say - and when to say nothing
  • What's ‘on the record’ and more importantly, what's ‘off the record’
  • Live interviews, pre-recorded interviews - what you need to know
  • How to present yourself, what to wear, where to look
  • How not to fall into some of the media's common traps.

We tailor our workshops to the specific requirements of each client's company, creating realistic scenarios of the types of approaches various media may take given a variety of situations, both when dealing with good news and in a crisis situation.

All participants are filmed in genuine interview situations by an experienced broadcast cameraman and then played back so their performance can be critically assessed and refined.

The half-day workshop is usually held in our boardroom, but can also be held at your premises if appropriate facilities are available.
